I checked for new Mac model serials and found that Apple dropped the “Late” part for the MacBook Pro models. Here is the new data:

I have no idea why, and Apple may change it back at any time, but this is a first.
Edit:
The data for About This Mac is cached after it is pulled from the Apple server. You can find it here:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SystemProfiler.plist
See also this screenshot:
They’ve just done this so that when they finally update the Mac Pro it won’t be subtitled “very late”
hi Pike, is that screenshot from a real MacBook pro? just wondering if you think you will ever be able to figure out the HD530 glitch fix when also using a dGPU.
Thanks,
g\
Yup. Absolutely.
I guess it’s just a question of ergonomics. Considering this is the only mac book pro from 2016, precising whether it is early, mid or late is useless.
Hi Pikeralpha, I was wondering if you ever shared your script for querying the serials? Didn’t see it on Github or the previous blog posts, so I assume not, is it something that you would be willing to share?
You are correct. I never shared it, and I won’t share. For good reasons. Trust me on this.
OK, fair enough, you’ve got me curious about the reasons though, what can come of querying partial serials? Thanks for your work though 🙂
What I do is part of the setup process, for new Macs, and thus running scripts that trigger the eye of Apple is not something that we want.
