The source code of a new update of AppleIntelInfo.kext is now available for download with a couple of new features. Like some information about the processor:

    • Your bus frequency appears to be too high. Like four times. This is a known Clover issue that I keep running into. Please check the output of: sysctl hw | grep frequency

      That should return 100000000 but it probably returns 400000000 instead.

      • Right. Totally expected. There is a Clover config plist setting for this, but this should never happen.

        I can only hope that power management ignores this error or else… you want to step up with 200MHz? Here is 800MHz. You want to step up with 500MHz. Here is 2GHz.

    • Thanks, but you also have a bus frequency error. Like Fabiosun. Next to two package limit settings in the Gigabyte BIOS that give you the 4095 Watt (twice).

      The #1 setting should be changed from Auto to 95.
      The #2 setting should be changed from Auto to 114 (95 + 20%).

      • 25000 is the wrong value.

        Edit: Not that you should add it yourself, but reading the Clover WiKi it states that you have two options:

        1.) Dump the SMBIOS structure type-132
        2.) Fix the DMI value (change the stock 100MHz to 25MHz) so that AppleSMBIOS.kext won’t quad pump it.

        Please note the SMBIOS structure type-132 is always there in real Mac’s and thus I would fix the DMI value.

      • in the Intel specifications of the i7 6700K, I found the TDP to be 91W instead of the 95W you mentioned. In my BIOS the max value is specified as TDP+25%. (91 * 1,25 = 113,75)
        So that would be 91W and 114W. Agree?
        I couldn’t find anything about “Time Window for Power Limit” for both limits, which off-course is also important.

        What would be sensible values for the time limits?

    Clover expose in auto this value 99790 that I have modified in 25000
    I found wiki page you refer but it seems I have to recompile clover bootloader:

    “2 – Set SMBIOS table type 4->ExternalClock to 0 (or 25Mhz as a real Mac). This currently has to be done in the source code and re-compile Clover”

  7. I can confirm that changing the QPI value to 0 instead of nothing, didn’t have any effect.

        Pike, if I set 0 on config.plist for QPI value, when I restart OSX and check into clover config option , in cpu/QPI value I have 065535
        If no value is set I have in the same place 099xxx
        If I put 100 I have always in that place a value of 000100 and a correct output for bus frequency

        Pike, have you ever solved the problem of reading the correct frequency value for DDR4 that you were investigating time ago? Also here is always set to 2133 and in my case without adding lines in clover smbios part I see only 64Gb..

        What I usually do is to run: ~/Library/ssdtPRGen/Tools/extractACPITables and check ~/Library/ssdtPRGen/ for the SSDT that I am looking for.

        About the DDR4 question. No. What I did was to add the data myself. That is how RevoBoot works. Some say it sucks, but I love it. One thing though. I remember that selecting the XPM profile in the BIOS didn’t work with power management. It might have been the BIOS but I cannot check this anymore. The box was given away. Remember 😉

  10. Hello! Here are my results, I’m running an i5 6600k with a Gigabyte Z170X – Gaming 5 motherboard. I was actually having the same problem as Sander37:
    Package Power Limit #1 : 3050W, Limit #2: 4050W. (Unfortunately I had closed the terminal window before changing the BIOS settings from Auto to 95 and 114 as you’ll see reported below, so these are not exact as my memory is a bit shaky.)

        Package Power Limit#1: Should that be the TDP? As my motherboard defaults to 95 watts, but Intel has 91 watts as the TDP for my processor.
        Package Power Limit#2: defaults to 95 Watts in the BIOS, but reading one of your replies above says that it should be TDP+25% = 114 Watts, which is why I put in 114 Watts, is this correct?

        Also I have been trying to find somewhere to lookup the “Time Window for Power Limit” values, but I have been unable to find anything on Intel’s ARK site, do you have a link?

        I’m thinking that if the motherboard defaults to 95 Watts for Package Power Limit#1 and 95 Watts for Package Power Limit#2, some of the other values may also be wrong?

      • Yes. The Package Power Limits are related to the TDP so if your processor has a TDP of 91 Watt then use that for the #1 limit and 114 Watt for the #2 limit.

        Sorry. I don’t have a link. This is probably NDA material that is hidden away in the BIOS Writers Guide.

        Other values may be wrong, and that is why I always change the Auto settings to the value I think is right.
        Sometimes the BIOS shows the correct value, either before or after the setting, but somehow fails to use it.

        It seems like PL1, should be sustained forever and PL2 should be sustained for around 100 seconds, but according to the logging i posted, they are around 20 seconds for PL1 and 10 ms for PL2.

        I’m not sure if that data is usable as the linked PDF is for Series 6 and not Series 100.

        Is it possible that: PL1 == PL2 and PL2 == PL3 of that document (As PL3 seems like around 10 ms)?

    No. I have never seen in CPU C6-Cores Greater numbers of 16 and never seen the P-States 13,14,15,16,17,18 and in Asus bios (all MB I tested) it is only possible to configure cpu from 0 to 17 (deluxe,Extreme, WS motherboards.
    Maybe it is not relevant but when I use Cinebench test I see all cores and threads working. Also in Windows all cpu cores are used.

    • Sure. I’m not too concerned about the number of cores that work, but it can be a real problem if not all cores enter the C-States. That at least doesn’t seem to be happening for your 22 core CPU.

      I’m not saying that this is a BIOS problem. Apple may as well only do that for up to so many cores.

        So I had my first one today and had a quick look and this is actually my fault. Oops. Oh wait. This is great, because now we only need a quick fix from me i.e. it should now report all cores, like it was intended to do. I guess I’m not much of a tea guy after all 😉

      • No. The problem is that the BIOS reports the wrong values for:
        Package Power Limit #1…………… : 3408 Watt
        Package Power Limit #2…………… : 4090 Watt

        You can fix this by changing the settings from “Auto” to the TDP and TDP + 20%/25% (depending the type of processor).

  22. Hi, is that .kext also usable for older CPUs like C2D or my Q9550 or only for i3,i5,i7 cpus / newer cpu types? I tried older versions (1.5,1.6) and always hang after kextload ….

    • Back then it was developed for the Intel Core CPU’s but I have read reports from people with older processors. For some it worked and others not, but without people telling me when and where it stops… nothing will change. My advise. Give it a go and let me know in case of errors on Github issues.
